This was Sally's prompt as she guides us through 52 weeks of "Focus on Life". I am so impressed each week with the photos everyone is capturing and the stories behind them. Such a diverse group in terms of who we are, where we live and what we focus on in our lives. I feel like I am getting to know everyone and am so appreciative of all the wonderful comments.

The house we moved into last fall was built in 1937 so all the doors are dark wood with glass door knobs. So very pretty! Where does this door lead? To my delightful bright studio where I spend most of my days. If you want to see pictures of that studio see my post Here

I have door envy! I would love to have some jewels like that on my doors... right about now they are feeling quite dull. I'll just pretend they are in keeping with the home - since bbuilt in 2005 :)

Ha! A fellow lover of the old and venerable! That color of paint takes me back to a time when my area had lots of "bungalow colonies" where people lived for a few months in the summer, and often painted their cottages with either the cheapest or most available paint. Or maybe it was an effort to be cheerful!
The plate on your door knob is so much more elegant than the ones on my glass knobs! Your old shed reminds me of the cabin we had at Manitou Beach in Saskachewan the siding is the same... and it was in constant need of painting! It was bright yellow with blue trim while I owned it.. and surrounded by flowers, went back 2 years ago the yard has been bulldozed and covered in gravel and the entire cabin including the roof is dark grey... how could they!
Ooh, lucky lady - I adore older homes. And I LOVE the weathered wood and turquoise paint. Just beautiful.
Gorgeous imagery Katherine! I too adore old buildings, the effects of the weather & the patina of age add something that is sadly missing in newer buildings. History :)

I'm so envious of your glass doorknobs. My grandmother's house had them when I was a kid and I was amazed by them even then. I'd love to have some in my house too. You are quite fortunate!
I so enjoyed reading your post today - the way the building spoke to you and how you wrote about it. Your photographs are beautiful, too. I love the door knob. When Sally presented this week's challenge I instantly pictured the door knobs in the house I grew up in. They are just like the one you have pictured here. My dad built our house and it had glass door knobs that, as a little girl, I thought looked like diamonds!! I loved them so much! I would love to have a door knob from my old house. Thank you for sharing that photo - it brought tears to my eyes!!
Lovely pictures and post. I love to check out older buildings and houses - wondering about the lives of the people who lived there. Our house in SF was 1928, and when we moved in there were layers, and layers of wallpaper. As we stripped it away you could see the styles and fashions through the years. And inside one of the doors were the markings of the kids as they grew. I loved that about that house.
Love the pictures of the shed / workshop. Like you, I tend to see the beauty and character in older buildings: youth might be looking better, but it doesn't attract me as much as the possible stories behind that shredded paint. And the turquoise paint - just perfect!
Your doors sound very much like some of the doors in our home: it is older too (about 65 years, I think) and has some charming spaces, including wood-paneled doors. Love the 'jewel' on your doors :)
I too am in love with that turquoise...have you been bold enough to ask the owner if you could *cough* have a few boards?? LOL

I love your weathered, turquoise barn! Love that. Such character. And your glass knob - divine. My grandmother had those on all of her doors and I love it, so very elegant.
